The target was an oil refinery at Dortmond. We flew #3 high in the high squadron. The Colonel’s bombs hung up so we went to the secondary. PFF went out so we made a huge 360 degree turn. We spent 55 extra minutes in Happy Valley (Ruhr Valley). We only saw 4 bursts of flak and no fighters. It was a good mission except for the tour of Germany.

  1. The official 398th target for 7 Mar 1945 was Siegen, Germany; however, it appears that the Magness crew and possibly the 601st went to the secondary.
