S/Sgt. John Veenschoten's Diary
Radio Operator/Gunner, 603rd Squadron

Veenschoten
Mission No.
12

19 September 1944
Target
Hamm, Germany

Target – Hamm, Germany
Date – September 19, 1944

This mission was unusual in that we ran into such heavy vapor trails. They were left by the groups ahead of us and formed a blanket of white which was much like fog. You could barely make out ships flying on our wing. The target was the marshalling yards and there was moderate flak. The flak could be heard bursting about us, but it was difficult to see.
