  4. Rank is not as of time of photo, it is as of April 1945.
  5. Photo is determined to be a training photo because the rank stripe on Thomson's sleeve is that of a private and the insignia above the stripe on Thomson's sleeve is that of the Army Air Corps. The crew had not been assigned to the 8th AAF at this point. In addition, the B-17 in the background is a 'F' model, the 398th flew 'G' models.
